Pentair is seeking a Director of Strategy, a newly created role, to lead the Company’s internal strategy function. S/he will support the Executive Leadership Team in articulating and refining the Enterprise Vision for the future, and formulating Corporate Strategy accordingly. The Director of Strategy will manage the Annual Strategic Planning Process, working across all parts of Pentair to define the process by which Pentair considers and selects its strategic growth choices. S/he will partner with Strategic Business Unit (SBU) Leaders to determine the paths by which Pentair will achieve its desired goals.

- Oversee and lead the formulation of Pentair’s Corporate Strategy, supporting the Executive Leadership Team by providing disciplined, analytical rigor.
- Identify critical themes and global macro trends that impact Pentair’s strategy.
- Manage Pentair’s Annual Strategic Planning activities including the setting of growth goals, and defining and managing the process.
- Act as a thought leader and champion for fact-based and analytical problem-solving.
- Leveraging best in class approaches, develop tools and frameworks that will inform Pentair’s decision-makers and shape its strategy.
- Support SBUs in their strategy formulation and planning process, serving as a strategic partner to SBU leadership teams.
- As appropriate, support Corporate Development efforts.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a highly strategic and analytical professional with at least six years of relevant experience, preferably including tenure with a best-in-class strategy consulting firm and experience in industry. Broad exposure, including both B2B and B2C environments is preferred, and an understanding of direct to consumer and digital channels is particularly relevant. The ability to effectively navigate a matrixed environment is required.
The ideal candidate must be a self-starter with solid research, analytical, critical thinking and creative problem-solving capabilities. S/he should possess the ability to assess potential market and customer opportunities against Pentair’s unique offerings and macro-trends, and translate those findings into clear, actionable strategies and value propositions. The ability to drive projects and processes to completion and deliver results in a high-performance culture is required. Persistence in the face of setbacks and difficulties is critical.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, as well as strong presentation capabilities. A proven ability to build relationships cross-functionally, especially with executive leadership, and lead through influence to create alignment around a shared vision with an array of internal stakeholders is key. Intense listening skills are requisite, as is the willingness to ask challenging questions and deliver honest messages in the form of insights and non-acceptance of the status quo.
The ideal candidate will possess a natural curiosity, be both confident and tactful, and will possess traits consistent with Pentair’s values and leadership competencies. An MBA is required.
